Schools share their French experience

A quick word about our current productions

In Au Pays Des Lutins children help Lucy and her cat, Pistache, return home. Together they bring exciting characters to life, including a fairy, unicorns, tin man, a lion and a witch.  Many challenges await us on our journey, with activities such as a colourful pompom dance, an animal hunt, Jacques a dit and le jeu du facteur.  With around 20 volunteers and up to 180 children engaged from start to finish, schools have praised Lucy for her energy and ability to engage each pupil through mime, movement, song and games, seamlessly switching from English to French.

Alongside our Au Pays Des Lutins theatre play, Joy 4 Kids is also touring a one-woman adaptation of our hit production Au Musée Magique.  We’ll soon be sharing an exclusive feedback video clip, where Year 6s share their experience. In the meantime you are welcome to explore posts written about the show’s two-actor version.

We believe a love for French is best experienced across the whole school.  This is why Joy 4 Kids also offers EYFS French workshops, in which up to 30 children join Lucy in a variety of French games, such as le jeu du loup, a colourful ball chase, a parachute game, French action songs, Jacques a dit and an animal pompom dance.

Whether schools choose a theatre performance, workshops or a combination of both, Joy 4 Kids will encourage children to practise curriculum-led vocabulary and phrases, developing their confidence as well as their listening and speaking skills.

Schools share their Spanish experience

A brief overview of our Spanish show

In Búsqueda Del Tesoro the children team up with Lucy to help her hunt for treasure in Spain. Along the way they meet exciting characters including a fiery flamenco dancer, an eccentric Don Quixote and an artist aspiring to become the next Pablo Picasso.  Encouraged to interact with native characters, the children solve each clue and challenge such as helping Esmeralda with her dance, packing Don Quixote’s suitcase and hunting for the artist’s colourful paints.

With around 20 volunteers and up to 180 children engaged from start to finish, schools have praised both Lucy and her Spanish co-star for their energy and ability to engage each pupil through mime, movement, song and games.  Each of Joy 4 Kids’ theatre adventures are designed to encourage children to practise curriculum-led vocabulary and phrases, developing their confidence as well as their listening and speaking skills.

Previous productions

A brief overview of our past shows including Au Musée Magique, which is now touring as a one-woman adaptation

We toured the original two-actor version of Au Musée Magique from 2024 to 2025 (see the first two posts below). In this story, two English tourists are swept away to a magical museum where the paintings have come to life.  As the children help return everyone to the Louvre, they meet a range of lively French characters and take part in fun, interactive challenges along the way. They help an ambitious jungle explorer sell her fruits and vegetables, assist an eccentric ballerina in teaching her jungle animals to dance, and support the museum’s resident artist in finding his missing paints.

This year we’ve adapted our Au Musée Magique adventure into a one-woman performance, currently touring London and South East UK.  In this version the children bring each character to life themselves,  as they help Lucy find her missing daughter and return everyone safely back to the Louvre.

Other previous productions include Chasse Au Trésor, which toured from 2023 to 2024 (see the final two posts). In this adventure, children team up with Scarlett to find treasure at the world-renowned International Treasure-Hunting Fair. After taking a wrong turn, Scarlett must complete her quest in French before the island closes.  Throughout the story the children meet and interact with French characters including an eccentric shop keeper, a charismatic Madame Saison and a comical sailor.  Each clue leads to a new interactive activitiy, such as a dress-up song, a ribbon dance, a changing seasons song, and a colourful ball chase.

All Joy 4 Kids productions are designed to build children’s confidence while developing their listening and speaking skills, with a strong focus on curriculum vocabulary and sentences. Because we believe the best way to learn is through interaction, performances are designed to engage up to 180 children from start to finish, with around 20 volunteers joining us on stage.

Schools often praise Joy 4 Kids for its energy and ability to engage every pupil through mime, movement, song and games — bringing language learning to life in a memorable way.

  • I can highly recommend Lucy and her company, J 4 Kids, for school MFL performances. From the very first communication, Lucy was so helpful and professional, making the whole process of organising her visit seemless and easy. Despite a long journey, Lucy and Ali arrived at school bang on time and were a joy to work with. They performed their French play for Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils, and it was fabulous. A super mix of French and English... read more

Lucy and her fellow actor performed "Chasse Au Trésor" at my school for pupils in Y3-6. Email communication beforehand was excellent and the pupils loved the play. It was engaging, interactive and the language was clear and accessible. I would thoroughly recommend!

We were delighted to welcome Lucy and Sara to our school to perform 'Au Musée' to our Key Stage 2 pupils. The performance was engaging, professional, perfectly pitched for the age of the pupils, and delivered relevant French language in a skilful and effective way. We would have no hesitation in recommending Joy4Kids and are hoping that they will return to us next year.

  • Lucy and Ligia performed their Spanish workshop ‘La Búsqueda del Tesoro’ this year in our school. Their show was dynamic, engaging and so entertaining! Children enjoyed it immensely (many actually thank us for bringing this extra activity to school). I highly recommend it as a great way to learn, practise and revise vocabulary while having fun.

Joy 4 Kids came to our primary school to perform the French theatre play ‘Au Pays Des Lutins’. From the first enquiry the service was very professional and prompt. Lucy performed two shows, one for KS1 the other for KS2 and they were pitched perfectly. There were a multitude of opportunities for different volunteers to participate and the whole performance is geared toward the pupils speaking as much French as possible. Lucy was an absolute pleasure to work with and... read more

What a pleasure to have had Lucy and Beatrice performing their French Theatre Play "Chasse au trésor" in our school this month. Their energy and enthusiasm are fantastic and their show is very engaging and inspiring for students learning Foreign Languages. Our students loved having this opportunity to learn and practise French outside of the classroom, in a beautiful and interactive performance they won't forget! Thanks a lot ladies 🙂

  • Lucy and Beatrice came to our school with their French show 'Chasse au Trésor' and what a treat that was! Our Year 6 children absolutely loved it! It was pitched at the perfect level in terms of the French, and the children said afterwards that they were amazed at all the French they were able to speak during the show. Well done to Lucy and Beatrice for engaging our budding linguists in such a fun and interactive way. We will... read more
