Our Amazing reviews!

  • I can highly recommend Lucy and her company, J 4 Kids, for school MFL performances. From the very first communication, Lucy was so helpful and professional, making the whole process of organising her visit seemless and easy. Despite a long journey, Lucy and Ali arrived at school bang on time and were a joy to work with. They performed their French play for Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils, and it was fabulous. A super mix of French and English... read more

We were delighted to welcome Lucy and Sara to our school to perform 'Au Musée' to our Key Stage 2 pupils. The performance was engaging, professional, perfectly pitched for the age of the pupils, and delivered relevant French language in a skilful and effective way. We would have no hesitation in recommending Joy4Kids and are hoping that they will return to us next year.

  • Lucy and Ligia performed their Spanish workshop ‘La Búsqueda del Tesoro’ this year in our school. Their show was dynamic, engaging and so entertaining! Children enjoyed it immensely (many actually thank us for bringing this extra activity to school). I highly recommend it as a great way to learn, practise and revise vocabulary while having fun.

Joy 4 Kids came to our primary school to perform the French theatre play ‘Au Pays Des Lutins’. From the first enquiry the service was very professional and prompt. Lucy performed two shows, one for KS1 the other for KS2 and they were pitched perfectly. There were a multitude of opportunities for different volunteers to participate and the whole performance is geared toward the pupils speaking as much French as possible. Lucy was an absolute pleasure to work with and... read more

What a pleasure to have had Lucy and Beatrice performing their French Theatre Play "Chasse au trésor" in our school this month. Their energy and enthusiasm are fantastic and their show is very engaging and inspiring for students learning Foreign Languages. Our students loved having this opportunity to learn and practise French outside of the classroom, in a beautiful and interactive performance they won't forget! Thanks a lot ladies 🙂

  • Lucy and Beatrice came to our school with their French show 'Chasse au Trésor' and what a treat that was! Our Year 6 children absolutely loved it! It was pitched at the perfect level in terms of the French, and the children said afterwards that they were amazed at all the French they were able to speak during the show. Well done to Lucy and Beatrice for engaging our budding linguists in such a fun and interactive way. We will... read more

A dynamic and immersive approach

Engaging each one of your pupils

Storytelling

The pupils play an integral part in all of my stories! In each of our language plays, the pupils help our main character, Lucy, on her quest.  They become active participants in the story, meeting native French or Spanish characters along the way, sometimes even bringing them to life themselves.  Theatre In Education offers immersive and engaging experiences that enhances language skills and cultural understanding.

Activities

To help our English character on their quest, the pupils take part in a variety of activities.  Those include role-play, dancing, singing and solving other playful challenges such as finding the lost paints when practising colours.  Our activities are both entertaining and educational, making them ideal for children to improve their listening and speaking skills, on top of vocabulary retention.

Boosting your pupils' confidence

Translation and recall

We strongly believe that when children figure things out for themselves, they are more likely to remember what they have learned. To facilitate this, we provide clear contextual clues and use mimes throughout our performances. This approach empowers pupils to both deduce the English meaning and, through association, recall key French or Spanish sentences and vocabulary.

Discover, repeat and consolidate

We tailor our delivery to match the age and language proficiency of our audience, whether they are beginners, intermediates, advanced learners, or a mix of abilities. Our approach not only helps pupils consolidate what they already know, but also prepares them for their ongoing journey in mastering French or Spanish.

Our French EYFS workshop and One-Woman Shows | Year 1 To 6

This year, pupils are invited to step into the story themselves through Joy 4 Kids’ one-woman French theatre productions.

All performances are written and delivered by bilingual French–English performer Lucy Dreyer, who brings each character to life while encouraging pupils to take on key roles throughout the story.

Schools can choose between two interactive French theatre plays: the Wizard-of-Oz-inspired Au Pays Des Lutins, and the magical museum adventure Au Musée Magique, both designed to immerse pupils in French through movement, song and playful challenges.

Joy 4 Kids also offers French workshops for EYFS and KS1, where Lucy sings, dances and plays games with the pupils, helping them build confidence using French in a fun, supportive environment.

If you’d like Lucy to perform a theatre play or lead a workshop at your school, please get in touch to discuss availability.

Our Spanish two-actor performances | Year 1 to 7

Our Spanish theatre production is delivered by a team of two actors: one English and one native Spanish speaker. Together, they bring to life one English character and three native characters from the target language.

Throughout our 1h performance we encourage assembly participation and invite over a dozen volunteers to join us on stage.

  • Our two-actor Spanish show, Búsqueda Del Tesoro for 6 to 12 year olds.  Bookings are open for the 2024/2025 academic year! Get in touch, if you’d like us to perform at your school.

Au Pays Des Lutins

Overview

Au Pays Des Lutins is a Wizard-of-Oz-inspired French theatre adventure where pupils don’t just watch the story unfold — they help bring it to life.

Written and performed by bilingual French–English performer Lucy Dreyer, this one-woman production invites children to step into key roles throughout the show, using French through movement, song and playful challenges.

The story

Pupils are swept away to Elf Land, where Lucy and her cat Pistache need help finding their way home. Along the journey, children meet and become iconic characters, including a fairy, a lion, a tin man and unicorns.

Together, they help the lion find his animal friends, bring the tin man back to life and take part in a magical dance with colourful pompoms — all while working to outsmart the witch and return Lucy and Pistache safely home.

Learning through participation

Throughout the performance, pupils:

  • speak and respond in French
  • move, sing and problem-solve together
  • practise vocabulary in meaningful, memorable contexts

Language explored includes colours, animals, emotions, numbers, body parts and simple sentence starters.  Delivery is adapted live to suit pupil age and confidence.

Au Musée Magique

an immersive event for year 1 to year 6 students

Au Musée Magique is an immersive French theatre experience that transports pupils into a magical version of the Louvre, where the paintings have come to life.

Delivered as a solo performance by bilingual French–English performer Lucy Dreyer, the show places pupils at the heart of the action, encouraging them to take on characters and use French actively throughout the story.

The story

When the museum is about to close, Lucy realises her daughter Lisette has gone missing. A mysterious French flag transforms the Louvre into a magical museum, and the audience is drawn inside.

Pupils bring the paintings’ characters to life, becoming a grumpy artist, an ambitious explorer and a playful ballerina. Together, they buy fruits and vegetables, teach animals to dance and hunt for colours — all in a bid to find Lisette and return everyone safely to the Louvre.

Learning through participation

The performance is designed to support primary MFL learning by embedding language in action.

Pupils practise:

  • listening and comprehension in spoken French
  • vocabulary linked to colours, animals, food and emotions
  • confidence in responding and speaking aloud

Language is modelled clearly and adapted live to suit different year groups.

Practical details

  • Ideal for: KS1 & KS2
  • Format: One-woman interactive theatre performance
  • Duration: 1 hour
  • Delivery: Adapted live to pupil age, ability and energy
